The President is elected from among the regional chamber presidents but retains his duties as president of his respective regional chamber of agriculture. The president represents the organization publicly, oversees its business, and presides over the Board of Directors and the plenary assembly. The president serves a four year term as do both vice-presidents, which are also chosen from among the regional agricultural chamber presidents. The president and the vice-presidents form the Presidency, which has preparatory tasks.
In general, the Board of Directors meets on a monthly basis. It consists of all the presidents of the regional chambers and two representatives from the Austrian Raiffeisen Association. The secretary-general heads the business of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture and, along with the directors of the regional chambers and the secretary-general of the Raiffeisen Association, has an advisory role.
In its annual general meeting, the plenary assembly approves the annual report and the annual budget, appoints the auditors and undertakes possible regulatory changes. Composition of the plenary assembly is similar to the board of directors.
The bodies of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture are elected in accordance with democratic principles and regional laws of agriculture. Like the regional chambers of agricultural, the Austrian Chambers of Agriculture operates through elected officials. The president represents his respective regional organization publicly and to the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture.
Committees and advisory boards deal with specialized interest areas such as: hill farming, rural women, young farmers, arable crops, milk production, livestock production, the forest and wood industry, legal and taxation policy, social policy and labour legislation, educational policy and cultural policy, environmental issues, organic agriculture, energy issues, vegetables and ornamental plant production as well as rural development and fruit production.
The Austrian Chamber of Agriculture does not levy additional fees. The costs are covered from the contributions of its members.
